denied.

My PA called while I was on my way to the gym.

I got denied.  The insurance company denied me.  WTF.  My starting BMI was 38.1.  I have high cholesterol and high blood pressure.  Or I did.  Then I lost 25 pounds.  I was on medications but I'm good now.  But the doc who reviewed my case felt my co-morbidities were not "all that serious."

WHAT THE FUCK.

I am so pissed.

I parked my car and cried for a minute.  Walked into the gym and ran on the elliptical for 45 minutes and wiped a way a stray tear every now and then.

Shopped at Trader Joe's afterward.

Came home.

Bawled my eyes out.

Tomorrow:  The appeals process will begin.

  1. im so sorry hun, hang in there. I hope your appeal does the trick. I don't understand how insurance companies decide these things. I hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

  3. I'm so sorry this happened!!! Good job for you to go to the gym and work off some of that mad/frustration! I'm confident you will be successful through the appeals proceess, though there's no doubt it's awful that you have to do that in the first place!

  4. This is just a minor setback. You will find a way through the appeals process. I was so frustrated when I initially looked into covering b/c my company didn't cover bariatric surgery for anyone. But unlike you I just gave up - and then a year later I realized I needed it and had to do self-pay. It is tough financially but worth it to have my life back.

  5. I'm so sorry. I too was self-pay but if you can get through an appeal with the insurance that will be great. Crossing my fingers.

  6. I would try everything possible to get approved. Maybe your surgeon can "doctor" your co- morbidities a little. You must be so crushed. I am very sorry. But, do go to the gym and do keep blogging!

  8. Did you contact your WLS MD? They are good with supporting appeals and understand different insurance company requirements.

Good Luck...I'm sorry you were discouraged today.

  10. Do not give up!
    Policies are a-changing.
Start a little history of weight gain to appeal with.
Perhaps find a new doctor. YOu are not the first to have this problem and most people I have read get approved.. Stay positive! And I am sorry. I know you must feel defeated. But like the others said we are all behind you!
